The Tours

The four hour Morning tour starts at 6am and finish at 10am. This is the better time of the day when the animals mostly down by the beach. You will see groups of friendly black macaques playing in just short distance from the entrance. Along the way you will see Cus cus Bear, Sulawesi Red-Knobbed Hornbill, and many endemic birds. Two hour afternoon tour starts at 4:30pm. Finish at 6:30pm. You will see the Tarsier in action hunting for insects. Tarantula, Sulawesi owl can also be seen during the afternoon trip.

The morning tour starts at 6am to 11:30am. Back to the Villa for lunch, and short rest. Then leave at 3pm for three hours afternoon tour.  Uphill toward the hill we can see Lilac Kingfisher, Sulawesi (Dwarf) Kingfisher, Sulawesi Hornbill, Knobbed Hornbill, Red-bellied Pitta, Tabon Scrubfowl, Sulawesi Myna, the hanging parrots, and on the highest stretches, Scaly Kingfisher. Sometimes if we are lucky enough we can see Maleo bird. During the night, walking a little further from Post 2 and Post 3 the Sulawesi Scops-Owl or Ochre-bellied and Speckled Hawk-Owl can often be seen.

Day time birding from the boat can also be interesting. Visit the cave on the sea cliffs where Sulawesi Masked-Owl making their resident. Further west would be a mangrove forest that holds the endemic Great-billed Kingfisher. Leave at 5:30 in the morning. It takes a 25 minute boat trip to get to the mangrove forest where you can see black bill king fishers. The 5 hours 30 minutes bird watching in the morning will be done from the boat. You will come back to the Villa for lunch and short rest. Then leave at 3pm for a two hours afternoon birdwatch in Temboan Hill.

Leave at 4am heading to Mount Mahawu in Tomohon, about 2 hours drive from our villa. The area is home of the scaly-breasted kingfisher, Green-backed kingfisher, Blue-eared kingfisher, Lilac-cheeked kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, the rare Rufous-throated Flycatcher, Sulawesi blue Flycatcher, Island Flycatcher , Citrine Flycatcher, Grey-sided Flowerpecker, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker, Yellow-sided Flowerpecker, Ashy Woodpecker, Sulawesi pygmy Woodpecker, Mountain Tailorbird, Purple-winged Roller, Yellow-vented Whistler, Crimson Sunbird, Speckled boobook, Ochre-bellied boobook, Black Sunbird, Olive-back sunbird, Sooty-headed bulbul, Hair crested drongo, Yellow-billed Malkoha, Chestnut Munia, Scaly-breasted munia, Grey Wagtail, Yellow Wagtail, Sulawesi scops owl, Sulawesi black-Pigeon, superb-fruit dove, Brown-cuckoo dove, Rusty-breasted Cuckoo,  Sulawesi-hanging parrot, Black Eagle, Black Kite, Osprey, Spotted Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Pale-blue Monarch, Isabelline-bush hen, Barred rail, White-browed Crake, Chestnut-backed Bush-Warbler, Sulawesi babbler, Sulawesi Myzomela,  Black-fronted White-eye, Streak-headed Dark-eye, Mountain white-eye, and many others. About 30 minutes drive is Lake Tondano where we can possibly see Purple swamphen, White-browed crake, White-breasted waterhen, Common Moorhen, Javan pond heron.
